Partituras de Alexander Borodin
Alexander Porfirievich Borodin (*12 de noviembre de 1833 en San Petersburgo, † 27 de febrero de 1887 en San Petersburgo), o Alexander Borodin para abreviar, fue un científico y médico ruso que alcanzó fama internacional gracias a su labor compositiva.
Aunque su estilo musical aún puede catalogarse como romántico (llegó a ser miembro del grupo nacional ruso los ›Cinco Rusos‹ también conocidos como ›, cuyo estilo también se describe como épicamente romántico), ya se perciben ecos del impresionismo en las coloristas obras de Borodin.
En su música pueden encontrarse elementos de la música folclórica rusa, y también pueden reconocerse influencias orientales (temas orientales) en un sentido más amplio, en particular en su ópera Fürst Igor, cuya trama se desarrolla en parte entre los Polovtsianos (Mongolia). Sus Bailes polowetzer tuvieron tanto éxito que se publicaron por separado -como los sencillos de hoy- y se adaptaron de muy diversas maneras.
La obra de Borodin también incluye tres sinfonías y el poema sinfónico Esbozo estepario de Asia Central, 10 obras de música de cámara y ocho Klavierwerke, 16 canciones y la Serenade of 4 Cavaliers for a Lady (un cuarteto para 4 voces masculinas con acompañamiento de piano), así como transcripciones para piano a cuatro manos de sus propias composiciones. Borodin no completó numerosos fragmentos de composiciones, muchas de las cuales se consideran perdidas.
