La música de las películas El Rey León, Gladiator o Los Piratas del Caribe probablemente nos resulte familiar a todos. Todas ellas proceden del mismo compositor: Hans Zimmer. Está considerado uno de los compositores cinematográficos más importantes de nuestro tiempo. Zimmer ha compuesto más de 150 partituras y ha recibido numerosos premios por su trabajo.

Hans Florian Zimmer nació el 12 de septiembre de 1957 en Fráncfort del Meno. De niño aprendió a tocar el piano en casa. Se graduó en el internado Hurtwood House de Inglaterra, considerado hoy una fábrica de talentos para el mundo del teatro, el cine y la música londinenses. Después tocó los teclados en varios grupos, como The Buggles y participó en su videoclip para la canción Video Killed the Radio Star con el sintetizador modular. La canción y el vídeo musical tienen tanto éxito que el nuevo canal musical MTV comienza su programación con ella el 1 de agosto de 1981.¿Cómo llegó Hans Zimmer a la música de cine?
Hans Zimmer trabajó en el estudio londinense Air Edel y compuso allí jingles publicitarios y radiofónicos. Allí conoció al compositor de cine británico Stanley Myers, que le contrató como asistente personal en 1980. Aprendió mucho del compositor, incluso a componer para orquesta.Gracias a la fama de Stanley, Zimmer también se fue haciendo más conocido y empezó a recibir pequeños encargos para composiciones cinematográficas. A mediados de la década de 1980, ambos fundaron juntos el estudio de grabación Lillie Yard. Fue allí donde empezaron a combinar música orquestal con sonidos electrónicos. Esto se convertiría más tarde en la marca de fábrica de Hans Zimmer.
Primera partitura para una película de Hollywood: Rain Man
En 1989, por fin había llegado el momento: Hans Zimmer podía componer su primera partitura para una película de Hollywood. Barry Levinson contrata a Zimmer para que escriba la partitura de su película Rain Main. Zimmer creó una innovadora composición de sonidos orquestales y de sintetizador para la partitura de la película, creando un nuevo estilo de banda sonora para películas de acción.
