Leonard Norman Cohen (* 21 de septiembre de 1934 en Westmount, † 7 de noviembre de 2016 en Los Ángeles), o Leonard Cohen para abreviar, es una leyenda. Aunque los críticos de los años 70 decían que el cantante folk »no tenía una buena voz para cantar«, fue precisamente esa mezcla de bajo-barítono con un registro relativamente pequeño, dinámicas bajas y un timbre aterciopelado pero áspero lo que caracterizó a Cohen y lo hizo inconfundible y exitoso.
En combinación con sus letras, en su mayoría melancólicas y poéticas, sobre las cuestiones existenciales del ser humano y sus composiciones melódico-melancólicas, Cohen tocó la fibra sensible de generaciones enteras en los casi 50 años de su carrera y creó una base de seguidores en todo el mundo. Las más conocidas de sus canciones también han entrado en la conciencia colectiva por su memorabilidad y han dejado huella; ¿quién no ha tenido de repente en mente el estribillo »First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin« para ciertas situaciones significativas?
