An exciting straight ahead modern jazz piece from the Steve Wiest Big Band library. The groove alternates between broken swing and New Orleans 'second line street beat'. Solo sections for trombone (or treble clef instrument) tenor sax and drums. Multiple themes (with the main theme featuring trombone and tenor) that are programmatically based on the novel 'Valentines Castle' by Robert Silverberg. Written high A with optional scream Ds for lead trumpet. 5 saxes, 8 brass, plus solo trombone and treble clef parts. Recorded on the Arabesque Jazz release: Excalibur: The Steve Wiest Big Band.
