Evensong is beautiful and pensive ballad in 3/4 featuring baritone saxophone and flugelhorn. After a statement of the lyrical melody from bari and flugel, ample solo space is given to baritone saxophone to display his/her skills at navigating the changes of a modern ballad. After a brief interlude, the trumpet soloist solos over a double time section in 4/4. The ensemble returns for a tutti in the original 3/4 ballad style followed by a recap of the melody from the soloists. This composition was commissioned by Brian Kendrick and the Delta College Night Jazz Band. Alto and tenor saxophones double on a brief and simple clarinet part. Top note for lead trumpet is a written high D, and top note for lead trombone is a written hig A. 5/4/4/g/p/b/d.Medium Difficult.
