Incident @ Perkins depicts, in the hard bop style, what can happen if you forget to ask for a plastic fork to go with your to go order of pie: sweet, sweet petty theft! This chart is full of parallel fifths, so theory police, get out your red pencils. Seriously, this chart is a big band romp in the hard bop tradition. Inspired by real-life events, the tune is somewhat Brecker-ish in nature. The piece climaxes in a tug-of-war between the ensemble and the drummer. Who will win? It doesn't matter, because everyone gets pie. This MOAJE commission was funded by Martha Stitzel in memory of her father Matt Betton, co-founder of the National Association of Jazz Educators, and her mother Betty Betton, Administrative Assistant.
