Kaija Saariaho’s first work for stage was premiered at the Sibelius Academy in 1981 and not performed again until 2022 when the composer reconstructed the work, including the original tape part which had been lost. It was published for the first time in 2023. The piece is based on T S Eliot’s poem The Hollow Men and features a soprano solo with electronic audio and lighting design. The score, published for the first time in 2023, combines conventional and graphic notation and includes detailed performance notes and an introduction by the composer.
