Salento, the southernmost region of Puglia at the heel of the Italian boot, has an extremely rich and lively musical tradition. This music is diverse, melodically memorable, full of power, magic and emotion and is essentially determined by the rhythmically propulsive, impulsive-gripping pizzica (tarantella).
Michael Aschauer has arranged musically very different songs for two melody voices (alto recorder, violin, flute or oboe) and piano, which are extremely popular in the area, and compiled them into a self-contained, entertaining four-movement suite. The two melody instruments are not difficult to play and communicate animatedly with each other. The subtly placed piano accompaniment, which is also available free of charge as a playback via the HELBLING Media app, dives deep into the character of the songs. The Suite Salento is sure to delight at lecture evenings or chamber concerts and is a joy to play.
