'Oasis' is a commission of Cantus Juvenum Karlsruhe.
With her children's opera, Israeli composer Tsippi Fleischer has composed a playful educational piece about sticking together, understanding, courage and cultural identity. The scenes of the children's opera show excerpts of the migration of the Israelite people from Egyptian slavery to their future homeland.
Fleischer creates a unifying cultural link between thought and reflection, between understanding and debate, which can also be grasped by children and young people. The result is a novelty in German-Jewish cultural and musical history. The composer's intention is to deal with the darkest chapter of the 20th century by means of the power of loyalty and the strength of children in our time. The modern, tonal work contains many exotic sounds. For a performance, 'Oasis' is suitable together with the children's opera 'Brundibár' by Hans Krása. By combining the two children's operas, a bridge is built between the past and the present, which makes it possible to deal with the past, to commemorate, to reflect and to understand.
