This masterful setting of God's Grandeur by Kenneth Leighton composed quite early in his career has characteristic mid-century muscularity. One can discern the influences of Hindemith and Dallapiccola at moments, though theLeighton sustains his diatonic grounding. There are frequent seconds and fourths in the harmonies and sly programmatic details, like the sliding setting of the word 'oozing'. Composer and pianist Kenneth Leighton is one ofBritian's most distinguished post-War composers whose works for Piano and Organ, in particular, manifest his intellectual rigour and Romanticism with virtuosic solo writing.
