Allen Pote has written this anthem in memory of his brother who recently died. Using the familiar scriptural passage from Isaiah, which foreshadows the suffering of Jesus, he has chosen a haunting melody in F minor to poignantly express the text. With a pulsating rhythm, this tone painting moves toward the climax--'and by his suffering, we are healed', which resolves by the use of a major chord. This dramatic and powerful piece is ideal for any Holy Week service.
