Eric Ewazen

The Poet and His Song

Ewazen's 7-minute larger work for chorus and orchestra is built upon a poem by Paul Laurence Dunbar. While orchestra materials are available on rental; this piano reduction serves well for programs with piano accompaniment only. Ewazen's harmonics and phrasing may require extra rehearsal time; but the work is deserving of the central spot on the program. 'I labor hard; and toil and sweat; While others dream within the dell; But even while my brow is wet; I sing my song; and all is well.'
