Baobab is derived from the composer's cello concerto (1997) and much of the material is cast as a dialogue between voices of differing colour. Baobab is dedicated to Raaf Hekkema.

Starting off gradually, this melodic piece builds in intensity over 7 minutes, interweaving the piano and soprano saxophone in a tighter design until fading again as the piece draws to a close.
