Jazz is rhythm and improvisation. This guide aims to show the way for anyone to learn how to improvise. All levels of difficulty are included, from simple exercises to full-blown choruses. In addition, two or more players of different instruments can familiarize themselves with collective improvisation by practicing together. For this purpose, the exercises of the same number have the same harmonic sequence and the same (sounding) key for all instruments.
Success will come if the peculiarities of rhythm, the rules of melody formation and the harmonic basics of jazz are observed in the writings 'History and Rhythm' and 'Harmony' from the JAZZ STUDIO series. - The melody collection 'Old Folks at Home' additionally offers forty well-known songs and spirituals for practicing improvisation.
