Ochsenmenuett (Josef Haydn)
The name Ochsen-Menuett is based on an anecdote that surrounds the creation of this little work. It is reported that a conservative master butcher once ordered a particularly beautiful piece of music from Haydn for his daughter's wedding celebration. Haydn, who had a great deal of understanding, spirit and humor, complied with the request and created a very festive-sounding minuet, which - similar in rhythm to a polonaise - was presumably intended for the ceremonial procession of wedding guests. The master butcher, full of pride about the honor of his house by the famous composer, brought as an honorarium a live ox.
On an old lithograph this scene is depicted. In the background Haydn's residence in Gumpendorf with the composer at the window. In the open space in front of the house, in the midst of a large crowd and surrounded by musicians, one sees the master butcher and his journeymen bringing in an ox decorated with ribbons. Thus Gumpendorf experienced a small folk festival at that time. All had their joy and posterity an anecdote more from the life of the ingenious musician.

Rundgesang (Robert Schumann)
The term Rundgesang goes back to the form of communal singing already in use in the Middle Ages, in which each individual singer performed a verse with different text, at the end of which always answered the choir with the Kehrreim. This form, in smaller and larger extension, was also taken up by instrumental music and found its peak under the designation Rondo in the Viennese classical period.
