Quite deliberately Hermann Regner presents here exclusively old German Christmas carols in four-part movements for recorders (SATB) or strings, also in combination with each other. The melody part is always accompanied by the text of the 1st verse, so that singers, solo or choral, can also participate. Preludes and interludes to the verses give each piece a satisfying, self-contained form. A special concern was to preserve the character and special nature of each basic melody.
The movements are initially intended for schools, music schools and family music-making. However, for performances in a larger public setting, the compilation of several movements into a suite or a cantata is also highly recommended.
