The saxophone is the quintessential jazz instrument, and there is a rich, exciting repertoire waiting to be discovered by newcomers.
'The Jazz Method for Saxophone' shows beginners of all ages the way from the first note to 'classic' Monk, Parker and Rollins themes. However, jazz pieces by today's leading jazz musicians and composers are also covered. The book includes a play-along CD with 69 tracks.
With a step-by-step introduction and pieces written especially for this school, the basic elements of sound saxophone technique - breath control, tone formation, embouchure, tongue thrust, and fingerings - are explained along with the rhythmic subtleties of jazz music (for example, syncopated rhythms and eighth-note phrasing). Systematic study of scales, arpeggios, chord progressions, and ear training tips encourage the student to improvise from the beginning. Additional practical tips such as picking reeds, caring for the instrument, as well as a bibliography and discography make 'Jazz Method for Saxophone' an ideal companion for both students who want to learn on their own and those who take additional lessons with a teacher.
The accompanying CD, recorded especially for this school, provides the musical background for all the pieces, so that the saxophone student can enjoy an authentic jazz sound from the very beginning by playing with a first-class rhythm section (bass, guitar and drums), and it will help him later with his first attempts at improvisation.
