Descripción de la:
The work 'Signals' for trumpet and piano was commissioned by the festival BrassWind 2010 for the Norwegian trumpeter Erlend Aagaard-Nilsen.
The title refers to signaltrumpet blowing, a wellknown use of the instrument. The work has 7 parts, and each part starts with fanfarelike motives, where the trumpet is blowing into the piano, that now exclusively works as 'soundboard'. After each fanfarepart the active ensemble with the piano is beginning. Small musical 'rooms' with different shape now step forward: 'comatting', 'uneasy / restless', 'resolute', 'mysterious', 'innocent'.
Like more of my works, I focus on musical contrasts and dissimilar use of the instrument. The number 7 is often used in biblical symbolism, as for example in The Revelation of St. John, where he mentions 'The seven trumpets'. 7 is also identical with the number of naturetone scales used by the modern valve trumpet.
