What do the American Joseph Kittinger and the Austrian Felix Baumgartner have in common? Both parachuted from a height of over 30 km. While Kittinger's first attempt took place on 16 August 1960 from an altitude of "only" 31,333 metres, Felix Baumgartner broke this record on 14 October 2012 with a whopping 38,969 metres.
