I wrote a piece called Fancies for the wood wind ensemble B3 from Bergen (Norway). This ensemble has no brass or percussion included.
In 2022 I reworked three of the movements for wind ensemble with brass and percussion instruments.
Instrumental music of a free character from the renaissance area was called fancy. The word is closely connected to fantasia. To fancy something is to like something.
In this piece I write music I fancy by alluding to jazz and fusion.
I also have to admit that I never forget having played the beautiful "Fancies, Toys and Dreams" by the English virginalist Giles Farnaby, arranged for brass quintet.
Three Fancies is meant to be an unpretentious piece of music that might be cool to listen to.
