Descripción de la:
Mendelssohn wrote the incidental music, for Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' in 1842, 16 years after he wrote the Overture. It was written to a commission from King Frederick William IV of Prussia. The music became one of Mendelssohn's most popular works.
The purely instrumental movements ('Overture', 'Scherzo', 'Intermezzo', 'Nocturne', 'Wedding March', and 'Bergamask') are often played as a unified suite or as independent pieces at concert performances.
The 'Nocturne' is the seventh movement. Dutch arranger Gerard Posch transcribed this movement for a small Symphonic Band.
