Hells Canyon for concert band (grade 3, inst: pic, 2 fl, opt ob, 3 clar, bs clar, opt bsn, 2 asx, tsx, bsx, 3 tpt, hrn, 3 tbn, bar/euph, tba timp and 3 perc, and opt string bass) is dedicated to the Clarkston High School Concert Band, Fred Dole, director, and was funded by The Commission Project of New York, Ned Corman, director. The piece features exciting, spirited themes and bold scoring. There is a contrasting, lyrical section featuring solo trumpet followed by a fiery ending. The title was inspired by Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge on earth.
