Descripción de la:
Shostakovich work on the 'String Quartet No. 8' proceeded simultaneously with incidental music to the film 'Five Days - Five Nights' and in this quartet he for the first time resorts to quoting themes and intonations from his earlier works. In each movement is encountered a theme based on the notes D, Es (E-flat in the German notation, standing here for the letter 'S'), C and H (B in the German notation) and forming an anagram of the name 'Dmitri Shostakovich'.
The Quartet has been transcribed by Rudolf Barshai for string orchestra, in which version it is known as the 'Chamber Symphony in C minor' (Kammersinfonie) and was authorized by Shostakovich himself. In 2014 Dutch arranger Anton Weeren arranged this symphony for a symphonic windorchestra.
