It can be neither seen nor heard, but it's ever-present and can make us ill or even kill us: this is the reality of atomic radiation. The most devastating nuclear catastrophes have doubtless been those in Chernobyl (April 26 1986) and Fukushima (March 2011). Should we even consider having to leave our home forever, because an accident has contaminated the land for centuries? Or should we-for the sake of our children-begin to consider renewable energies in earnest? These are the questions raised by the composition Nuclear Power. It describes the biggest nuclear accidents of our age and, eventually transports us to a city of the future, in which sun, wind and the earth provide power in abundance, without the danger of the nuclear 'worst-case scenario'. This work was commissioned by the Fluh Music Society of Bregenz in Austria. The client wished-in the form of a musical message-to express that putting faith in the safety of nuclear energy is mankind's most fatal error.
