This expressive piece recalls the lives of American pioneers. Starting with only the clarinets, the pensive opening melody is thoughtfully stated by the woodwind choir. As the full ensemble enters, the mood quickly transforms into adventurous excitement. Eventually the pioneer struggle is rewarded and hope emerges with strength and resolve with brief statements of "This Is My Father's World" and "America The Beautiful," before the final restating of both themes.
