The ragtime is a medium quick syncopated dance which was extremely popular at the turn of the century. It was also one of the components of jazz music.In the seventies there was a real revival of ragtime music, largely due to the succes of the film 'The Sting' which used the ragtime music of Scott Joplin. This Ragtime Suite is based on two popular American songs. The middle part is not a ragtime, but a romantic intermezzo with some jazzy influences.
