The piece is a programmatic work depicting a professional cycling race similar to the annual Spring Classics or a stage from one of the Grand Tours. Within the composition, there are sections representing the various sights and sounds of a race. This work is Mr. Drake's tribute to the men and women of professional cycling that endure endless hours training and racing in punishing conditions to become some of the most amazing athletes on the planet. Written primarily in 6/8 meter, 'The Peloton' gains momentum until the finish line is crossed in a glorious, climactic musical moment!
