In 1988, Egil Monn-Iversen composed this melody for Alf Prøysen's lyrics from 1964 for the performance "Nå seile vi på Mjøsa" at Det Norske Teatret ("The Norwegian Theatr"). It was through this musical arrangement that the song gained the popularity and recognition we know today.
