Venite Adoremus

Adeste fideles' is the title of one of the best known Christmas carols. The German version is known as 'Nun freut euch, ihr Christen' or also as 'Herbei, o ihr Gläubigen', the English as 'O Come All Ye Faithful'. It was composed around 1743 by John Francis Wade (1711-1786). The first manuscript contained both the melody and the Latin text and was published in the Evening Offices of the Church in 1760. Wade had already published the text in his work Cantus Diversi in 1751. Frederick Oakeley and Thomas Brooke translated the song into English, and this version was first published in Murray's Hymnal in 1852. The song is sometimes called Portuguese Chant because it was often sung in the chapel of the Portuguese Embassy in London, where Vincent Novello was organist. Heinz Briegel has given this beautiful song a very expressive arrangement, placing particular emphasis on melody and sensitive harmonization. A sonorous gift for the upcoming Christmas season and an enrichment for the Christmas repertoire. Latin text version: Adeste fideles, laeti triumphantes, Venite, venite in Bethlehem. Natum videte regem angelorum: Venite adoremus, venite adoremus, Venite adoremus Dominum! En grege relicto, humiles ad cunas Vocati pastores approperant. Et nos ovanti gradu festinemus: Venite adoremus, venite adoremus, Venite adoremus Dominum! Aeterni Parentis splendorem aeternum Velatum sub carne videbimus. Deum infantem, pannis involutum, Venite adoremus, venite adoremus, Venite adoremus Dominum! Pro nobis egenum et foeno cubantem Piis foveamus amplexibus. Sic nos amantem quis non redamaret ? Venite adoremus, venite adoremus, Venite adoremus Dominum!
