Schubert's Mass in E flat major is the last of his six settings of the Ordinarium Missae and at the same time his most important work of this genre. The Mass is full of varied drama and confessional expression. For many choirs it is on the wish list of those works they would like to sing one day. But what do you do when the choir is a little smaller, the budget is limited and the space at the performance venue is limited?
The experienced arranger and orchestral musician Joachim Linckelmann offers a good solution here. In his version for soloists, choir and chamber orchestra, he reduces the winds from the original 13 to just 7 instruments. The strings remain identical to the original in their parts, but can now also be reduced in terms of instrumentation. And the vocal parts (solos and choir) are completely unaffected by the arrangement, so that one can sing from the piano reductions and choral scores of the Carus Urtext edition.
> large work can also be performed for smaller choirs>
13 winds of the original version reduced to 7 instruments
> piano reductions and choral scores of the original version can
be used.
> carus plus: The work (original version) is available in the app carus music, the Choir Coach, as well as in the series Carus Choir Coach (audio only).
