Mauricio Kagel's Andere Gesänge is a 28-minute set of "intermezzi" for solo soprano and orchestra. The composer compiled the text from proverbs in various languages dealing with laughter, time and death. This work attempts to reflect the inherently musical changes of language and what fundamentally defines it: the experience of communicating. Andere Gesänge was premiered on 22 April 2004 at the Cologne Philharmonie by Juliane Banse (soprano) and the WDR Sinfonieorchester, conducted by Semyon Bychkov. This score (EP10900) is available as part of the Peters Contemporary Library.
