An ihrem 34. Geburtstag erhielt Clara Schumann von ihrem Mann nicht nur einen Flügel, sondern auch gleich das neueste Notenmaterial. Darunter fand sich unter anderem das einsätzige Concert-Allegro mit Introduction für Pianoforte und Orchester op. 134, in dem die Dominanz des Soloinstruments noch stärker hervortritt als in der vorausgegangenen, sowie die ebenfalls aus nur einem Satz bestehende Komposition Introduction und Allegro appassionato op. 92. Mit beiden Werken knüpft Schumann an die von ihm angestrebte Erneuerung der Gattung Solokonzert an.
