Urtext despite carelessly notated autograph
Mozart's late Symphony in E-flat major was composed in 1788, presumably for Academy concerts that did not materialize. The new edition is based on the only preserved authentic source. The autograph from the Biblioteka Jagiellónska Kraków, however, is extremely carelessly and incorrectly notated. This confronts the editor more often than ever with the question of whether or not differences in articulation were intended by Mozart. Cliff Eisen's editorial competence was thus all the more challenged.
