Descripción de la:
Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) composed his three-movement Symphony No. 3 in C Major, Op. 52 between 1906 and 1907, with the work receiving its premiere by the Helsinki Philharmonic Society under the composer on September 25th, 1907. The work, sometimes called the "English" Symphony due to both Sibelius' trip to Britain in 1905 and to its dedication to British composer and Sibelius champion Granville Bantock, holds a role as a transitional piece in the Finnish composer's symphonic output. Where his first two symphonies are patriotic and grandiose Romantic works, and the later symphonies are more austere, Symphony No. 3 is a work that doesn't fit well into either period, with the first two movements tending towards "classicism" while the third movement defies any categorization. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
