The Cahier de métamorphoses was conceived as a school of listening: listening to the resonances of the instrument, but also listening to one s own capacity to act on the sound. Thanks to a wide range of specifically noted playing modes, dynamics and pedalizations, this score thus allows the pianist to apprehend and contrai multiple sonorities of the piano that are varied, contrasted and unexpected: the search for sound colors, beyond the digital realization, constitutes the central musical focus. The Cahier de métamorphoses explores the principle of variation in a number of directions: variation of the initial material set out in the first piece, variations of the playing modes, the colors and the resonances. These miniatures caver the course of studies of a young pianist and in this way !end themselves to bringing together ail the students of a piano class in a collective project where each one, according to their degree of instrumental mastery, offers their contribution to the ongoing metamorphosis of the text.
