In the silence of the monotonous steppes of Central Asia is heard the previously unfamiliar sound of a peaceful Russian song and from afar the clattering of horses and the footsteps of camels and the strange sounds of an Oriental melody. A local caravan approaches, escorted by Russian soldiers, and continues safely on its way through the immense desert, moving farther and farther away. The Russian song and the Asian tune merge to form a joint harmony the echo of which is gradually carried away by the winds of the steppe.
