THE ROYAL ARMY WIND ORCHESTRA OF THE NETHERLANDS 'JOHAN WILLEM FRISO

The Royal Army Wind Orchestra of the Netherlands 'Johan Willem Friso' (JWF) was created on January 1, 2005 from a reorganization of the music of the Royal Land Forces, in which the four Royal Netherlands Military Orchestras that existed until then were dissolved. The orchestra comprises 54 people stationed at the Johan Willem Friso Barracks in Assen.

An important part of its activities therefore takes place as a kind of "operational orchestra" within the army. In addition, the wind orchestra has to fulfill representative duties for the army, gives regular concerts and participates in military parades in the Netherlands and abroad. The JWF's calendar includes ceremonial occasions such as changing of the guard, swearing-in ceremonies, national commemorations, the opening of Parliament, Veterans Day, and CD recordings.
