Inside music presents a practical approach to developing the composing, performing and listening skills required for the GCSE examination. It is clearly laid out and easy to use. Each project lists the required resources, gives starting points for listening, performing and composing activities, and follow-up suggestions entitled 'Which Way Next?' A pupil self-assessment chart is included at the end. Structures explores the ways composers organise their music. How do they find a starting point? What do they do next? Projects 1-10 focus on the musical structures that can be created using the principles of repetition and contrast. Projects 11-17 concentrate on textures and sounds; while projects 18-24 examine less conventional ways of structuring musical ideas, including elements of chance and improvisation.
