Rosetti wrote the work, composed around 1781/82, for the first oboist of the Wallerstein court chapel, Gottfried Klier - a master of his instrument, as the solo part of the concerto easily reveals.

In collaboration with the famous bassoonist Franz Czerwenka, Rosetti became acquainted with the virtuoso writing for the bassoon, which finds its impressive expression in the present concerto.
