Anja Lechner, cellist and dedicatee of 'Hieroglyphs of the night' explains her feelings with Silvestrov's music: '... it changed me. I was so moved by this delicate, breathing sounds and melodic fragments, interwoven with contrasting textures, finally dissolving into the air ... His still, poetic language enabled me to discover a new universe of quiet tones.'Quasi Vc-solo means that the two cellists respond to and communicate with each other so gently, tenderly and sensitively, as if there is only one instrument playing, a cello 'for four hands', so to speak, a cello with expanded possibilities.
